US actor James McCaffrey dead at 65 following health battle

US actor James McCaffrey has died aged 65 following a battle with cancer.

Best known for his work in the series Rescue Me and the video game series Max Payne and Alan Wake 2, he reportedly died on Sunday.

His manager confirmed the news to Variety.

TMZ reported that the star was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell, according to Mayo Clinic.

Also to speak out on the tragedy was McCaffrey’s friend and fellow actor Kevin Dillon who wrote on social media: “#rip James McCaffrey we were lucky to have known you.

“My best friend you will be missed 🙏🏼 .”

Actor James McCaffrey has died.

He shared a photo of the two friends together alongside the tribute.

Among the comments was Hollywood star Matt Damon who wrote: “🙏🏻 pure class.”

“Damn Kev. I’m really sorry to hear that. What a great guy he was. I know how tight you guys were. Love you pal,” actor Kevin Connolly said.

Born in 1959, McCaffrey trained to be an actor at the Actor’s Studio in Los Angeles and kick-started his career with direct-to-video movies.

He managed to successfully transition to TV where he appeared in shows including Civil Wars and a breakout role in New York Undercover.

McCaffrey’s other credits include Sex and The City, Jessica Jones, Suits, Blue Bloods, and She’s Gotta Have It.

The actor is survived by his wife Rochelle Bostrom and daughter Tiernan McCaffrey.
