A tender moment unfolded over the weekend when Gogglebox Australia star Isabelle Silbery introduced her newborn daughter to her beloved grandmother, Emmie Silbery, for the first time.

Isabelle, 38, gave birth to little Ruby Emily Richards earlier this month, but this weekend was the first time the bundle of joy got to met her 94-year-old great-grandma, who appeared alongside Isabelle on the hit Foxtel lifestyle program for six years up until her shock dementia diagnosis earlier this year.

The couch critics were also joined by Isabelle’s mum, Kerry, who was also present at the meeting on Sunday.

The beautiful occasion was captured on camera with Isabelle sharing the footage on Instagram, while also revealing she named Ruby after a very important person in Emmie’s life.

“Oh, she’s so dainty,” Emmie said, while approaching Ruby’s pram in the clip. When Isabelle informed her of the baby’s name, Emmie replied, “Really? Oh, thank you, that’s lovely.”

Isabelle thought so too, explaining in her caption, “My heart explodes. Ruby was the name of Emmie’s Aunty who adopted her when she was orphaned at age of 9. She saved Emmie from the horrible orphanages back in those days and cared for her like she was her own daughter.”

“I hope our Ruby inherits generations of maternal resilience and Emmie’s cheeky sense of humour.”

In a previous interview while promoting their 2022 memoir Out of the Box, which the 94-year-old co-wrote with Isabelle and Kerry, Emmie revealed she was born in Mildura and was the youngest of seven children growing up in a shack on the banks of the Murray River.

“Orphaned at just eight years old, I was separated from my siblings and sent to live with an aunt in Tasmania. This was a terribly traumatic time during my earlier years,” she recalled at the time.

When Isabelle announced she was expecting her first child with husband Alex Richards – she has a 9-year-old son Luca from her previous marriage – she had hoped it would be a girl so three-generationed Silberys would be on the show again.

“There will be three women on the couch again,” she told Woman’s Day. “Mum is so excited I’m having a girl. She always told me, ‘It’s up to you to have another woman in the family.’”

The Silbery clan has always been close knit, so it was devastating for all when Emmie could not join them on the show this year for the first time since 2016, when they made their debut on the program.

Kerry, Isabelle and Emmie joined Gogglebox Australia in 2016.

The Silberys made the announcement about Emmie’s condition and her subsequent departure back in February, sharing that the matriarch was diagnosed with dementia and won’t be returning to the show.

“We are sad to announce that Emmie won’t be joining us on the couch for Gogglebox Australia this season,” they posted on Instagram at the time.

“It’s been a very challenging time for our family and we’ve had to make some difficult decisions. Emmie has been diagnosed with dementia and we wanted to be transparent about this as many families experience it.

“Emmie will be watching and rest assured she’s happy and being cared for.”
