popular Australian pizza chain has shut up shop at two locations, blaming “incredibly tough economic conditions” for its decision.

WiseGuise Pizza, which operated five stores across Tasmania, this week announced it had been forced to close its Burnie and Devonport locations.

The company’s Mowbray, Prospect and Riverside stores will remain open.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the immediate closure of our pizza stores,” it said.

“Unfortunately, due to incredibly tough economic conditions along with the rising costs of running a family business, we have had to make this difficult decision.

“Despite all our efforts, recent times have shown a constant decline and while the three original stores continue to perform well, the stores on the coast struggle to remain viable.”

The company said it was “devastated” by the outcome and that staff on the coast would lose their jobs.

“We want to take this opportunity to express a heartfelt thank you to them,” it said.

“And thank you to our wonderful coastal customers, we have loved serving you and supporting your local charities and sporting clubs.”

The company first opened its doors in Mowbray, Launceston in 2015.
