‘The f*** does that mean?’: Wallabies great torches Eddie Jones in expletive-laden rant

Wallabies legend Drew Mitchell has torn into embattled coach Eddie Jones and questioned his decision to not select Quade Cooper and Michael Hooper in his World Cup squad.

Jones is under fire after the Wallabies’ 22-15 loss against Fiji, the first time the latter had beaten Ausralia in a Test match since 1954.

It was also Jones’ sixth loss in seven games since returning to the Wallabies as the Aussies stare down the barrel of an early World Cup exit for the first time in history.

In the aftermath of the Fiji loss, Jones took “full responsibility” for the defeat and insisted disappointed fans should “throw baguettes” at him.

However, Mitchell questioned what Jones taking “full responsibility” actually meant.

“Let’s not take away from the fact that Fiji played really well,” Mitchell told The Good, The Bad and the Rugby podcast.

“But let’s not take away from the fact we f***ing shouldn’t have lost to Fiji.

“Eddie sits there and goes, ‘Yeah, it’s my fault, I take full responsibility.’ What the f**k does that even mean?

“He doesn’t get dropped this week. He’s not not coaching next week. It’s an empty f***ing line at a press conference. ‘Yeah, I take full responsiblity.’ Like, what does that equate to? Nothing.”

Mitchell also tore into Jones’ decision not to select wiser heads like Quade Cooper and Michael Hooper in his World Cup squad.

The Wallabies boss selected a largely inexperienced squad for France with the logic that the team was in desperate need of some new blood.

However, the lack of experience has shown in the World Cup and Mitchell couldn’t help but feel the presence of Cooper or Hooper could have provided a calming influence.

“You’ve made some glaring decisions around Quade (Cooper), around Michael Hooper, captaincy, there’s been six captains in seven games,” Mitchell said.

“Like, f***ing explain some of these decisions to us. As fans, we’re sitting here scratching our heads.

“A lot of the time we can sit there and defend Eddie or the Wallabies because we can understand the logic in some of these decisions. But there’s none of it.

“He’s given no explanation as to why Quade’s not there or why is Michael Hooper not there. He said because Hooper is injured, well you’ve taken Pone Fa’amausili, you’ve taken Max Jorgensen and these other guys that are injured, so that’s a redundant point.

“Why the f**k have you not selected Michael Hooper and Quade Cooper? Come out and tell us, as fans, why have you not picked these guys.

“Because now, we’re seeing the result of you not picking some of these guys.”

While Mitchell’s Wallabies rant was well received by most rugby fans, Fiji coach Simon Raiwalui took offence to his assertion that Australia should not have lost to Fiji.

“Let’s not take away from the fact Fiji played really well…greatest day in Fiji Rugby…nothing against Fiji’s performance…but…but…but,” Raiwalui wrote.

“It starts to get a little condescending…do our young men deserve that?”

Mitchell quickly clarified he had not intention of being condescending towards Fiji Rugby.
