As 2023 draws to a close, is it time to crown Sydney Sweeney an honorary Australian?
The so-hot-right-now US actress, 26, has returned to our shores once more, this time to attend the Sydney premiere of her upcoming racy rom-com Anyone But You, co-starring Glen Powell.

It makes Sweeney’s third visit to Australia this year that we know of – she originally filmed the movie in and around Sydney, then returned with co-star Glen Powell for some last-minute reshoots when the Hollywood strike lifted just weeks ago.

This time around, she was in full glam mode, hitting the red carpet at Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter on Monday night in a stunning sheer, backless gown.

She didn’t stick around for the film, though: Sweeney was later photographed, still in her gown, boarding a private jet at Sydney airport along with her fiance Jonathan Davino.

Sweeney experienced the best and worst that Australai has to offer when she filmed Anyone But You on our shores: She and Powell filmed in lush locations like Sydney Harbour, but she also had a close encounter with a huntsman spider which repeatedly bit her on camera.

Her co-star had a near-death experience of his own filming that scene, which takes place on a bush clifftop as the pair realise Powell’s character has a spider in his pants.

The actor told Variety he took his pants off “too fast” in the scene and lost his balance, almost tumbling off the cliff stark naked.

“Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe,” Powell confessed.

“Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast. But it’s a really fun scene, so it was all worth it.”

Meanwhile, Sweeney’s also been giving away some of our secrets, earning shocked laughter from US talk show host Jimmy Fallon when she educated him on the Australian phenomenon of “schoolies” and “toolies” taking over the Gold Coast during a recent appearance on his show.

It was reported recently that White Lotus star Sweeney is so enamoured with Australia that she’s downloaded a local real estate app and wants to buy a house in our country.
