‘Robbery’: Macca’s raises price of soft serves by nearly 50 per cent
Furious McDonald’s fans have expressed their outrage after the fast food outlet raised the price of a beloved item by a whopping 44 per cent.
Angry Macca’s fans have slammed the price increase of soft serves, with some now labelling the treat as “unaffordable”.
McDonald’s quietly raised the price of its cheapest treat from 80 cents to $1.15 in many of its stores this week.
While each fast-food location sets its own menu and prices, many on social media were irritated that the cost of what was once seen as an affordable treat had risen by 43.75 per cent in a single swoop.

Many were quick to point out that the ice cream had once cost just 30 cents, with McDonald’s promoting the super cheap price in 2012.
The drastic change in costs means the price of a soft serve has increased by 283 per cent in just over a decade.
One customer described them as an “unaffordable luxury”.
“I want to congratulate McDonald’s on their loss of a regular customer. A $0.30 raise in the price of a soft serve is daylight robbery,” she wrote on social media.
“These cones which vary incredibly in size depending on the whim of the server are no longer a drawcard to further purchases.”
Others pointed out that other fast-food outlets had cheaper options.
“How can maccas justify that % raise? Hungry jacks over the road was 80 cents. 30 cents is no big deal but it is the principal,” one person wrote.
While many were incensed by the price rise, others were quick to point out that the dessert was still affordable compared with other ice creams available.
McDonald’s proudly boasted a 30c price tag for its soft serves in 2012. Now the price is 283 per cent higher.
“Paid $5.75 at the servo for a Magnum the other day. One dollar for a treat is still reasonable,” one Facebook user said.
A spokesperson from the fast food restaurant responded to the outrage.
“We’re committed to our ‘Value means more at Macca’s’ promise, which includes providing our customers with exceptional everyday value, great customer service, 24/7 convenience and focusing on year-round offers like our family bundles,” the spokesperson said.
“Customers can also get great value at McDonald’s through My Macca’s Rewards – which offers great discounts, weekly deals and loyalty rewards – and through our year-round Loose Change Menu.
“Like all businesses, we review our prices from time to time, considering several factors, including the higher-cost environment we are all operating in. As individual businesses, McDonald’s prices are set at a restaurant level.”
