Jimmy Barnes’
wife Jane has shared that the Cold Chisel frontman has made “good progress” after he underwent open-heart surgery on Wednesday.

The 67-year-old was seen in a new photo resting in his hospital bed and smiling to the camera.

“Jane here to update you about our Jimmy. Good progress today in ICU. Some massive tubes have come out and first physio visit,” Barnes wife of 42 years said.

“Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that!

“Our family thanks each and everyone for your well wishes, every single one counts so please keep them coming.”

Friends and fans took to the comments to share messages of support.

“Great news Jane, thank you so much for keeping us updated. Lots of love from our home to yours,” musician Jeff Neil wrote.

“Looking good mate 👏💚☘️,” Colin Fassnidge said.

“Sending love ❤️,” John Farnham’s son Rob wrote.

“We just bloody love ya mate. You’re a fighter. All the love mate. And Jane of course ❤️❤️❤️,” Nedd Brockmann said.

The update comes a day after Jane’s latest update where she “shared a couple of pictures” from before and after his surgery.

“Hi! It’s @jane13barnes here,” she wrote.

“Sharing a couple of pics from earlier this morning.

“I’m happy to let you know that our Jimmy has made it through his surgery and is now recovering in the ICU.

“We are so grateful for the incredible medical team looking after him.

“Thank you for all the love and support.

“I will keep you posted.”

In the first photo, Jane posed next to her slightly groggy-looking husband.

In the second photo, however, Barnes is sitting up, looking alert, smiling and waving at the camera.

‘Out of action for a while’

Earlier on Wednesday, Barnes posted a long message to his social media followers explaining he would be “out of action for a while” and that it had “all happened very suddenly”.

“Unfortunately I got some bad news late yesterday … despite everyone’s best efforts the bacterial infection I’ve been battling over the last fortnight has apparently now spread to my heart,” he wrote.

“It’s infected an otherwise healthy valve that was replaced some years ago due to a congenital defect, so I’ll be getting open-heart surgery over the next few hours to clear out this infection and put in a clean valve.

“Obviously this is going to take me out of action for a while.

“I know lots of other people are battling even worse things but it still feels hugely frustrating.

“Just a few weeks ago I was the fittest I’ve been in decades!”

He went on to address his upcoming shows, sharing that his team are currently rescheduling dates due to the “sudden” nature of the operation.

“Anyway, as you can hopefully appreciate, this has all happened very suddenly so it’s going to take a few days for everyone to figure out what’s going to be doable with my upcoming shows,” he explained.

“I’m really sorry for all the inconvenience this will cause but please be patient while my team works hard to figure things out.

“A new plan will be announced as soon as possible.”

Barnes went on to praise his wife Jane for her love and support.

“In the meantime l’d like to thank my darling Jane for her around the clock love and care over the last few weeks in particular — as always l’d be lost without her,” he wrote.

“I’d also like to thank the doctors and nurses who’ve been amazing and all the people who have sent me ‘get well’ messages.

“You’ve all lifted my spirits and I’m sincerely grateful.

“Given the serious nature of this operation I probably won’t be posting again for the next few weeks so all the best to you and yours for the holidays.”

Earlier in 2023 the singer was on bed rest following an emergency hip surgery and was forced to cancel his summer tour.

“We had some (live) things planned, but they fell through because of my surgery,” he said earlier this year.

His hip surgery relieved years of chronic pain.
