Melbourne Cup fashion: All the best celebrity looks from race day
  • PublishedDecember 6, 2023

Bright colours and bold headwear were the order of the day as A-listers flocked to the Melbourne Cup.

It might be the race that stops the nation – but Melbourne Cup day is also the day where fashion choices can stop others dead in their tracks.

Whether through sheer admiration, shock, or awe, it doesn’t really matter – it’s all about going all-out on race day, wowing from your fascinator-topped head to your grass-unfriendly high heels.

And don’t forget the lads, who also get that once-in-a-year chance to bust out the fancy suit – or, alternatively, wear their pyjamas out in public and a beer can hat on their head, depending on whether they’re in a posh tent or out in the stands with the rest of the non-celebrities.

The top trends of the day?

Bright, acidic colours (think yellow, orange and purple), bold red, and big hats, rather than the tiny fascinators of old.

Here’s our look at the looks that stopped the nation, the best celebrity fashion and the honourable mentions for originality or quirkiness.
