The celebrity trainer who puts together Margot Robbie’s gruelling workout regimens has revealed a “hard” truth about the Aussie star’s intense fitness schedule.

David Higgins has worked on the set of BarbieThe Last of UsBlack Widow and the Batman movies to help stars get camera ready.

The trainer to the stars has been tight-lipped about the actual work he has done with Robbie since the pair met on the set of Tarzan, but she’s attributed the father-of-three to putting her in the “best physical shape” of her life.

But he did make a very frank admission about people who aspire to look like the stars.

“I think that it’s important for people to understand that although we put these people us as the epitome of health and wellness, that is where we strive to be, but just know it’s very hard,” Higgins told news.com.au.

“I work with these people every day for months and months and months. And, it’s for a job. It’s not for a holiday or for longevity.

“I have clients that I work with them long term but the aesthetic that’s out there that’s considered the ‘optimal’ we work very hard to achieve that and it’s not an easy pursuit.”

He also pointed out that workout goals change over for years, with the 41-year-old saying that 20 years ago it was all about building beach muscles for himself.

Now, it’s about being a climbing frame for his three boys when he walks through the door.

He said the latter was easier for him to adhere to because it was “out of love, devotion and to be a good dad”.

“I think everyone has there own reason as to why they want to do certain things. And that’s up to them. It’s all about finding something to hang your hat on,” he added.

The celebrity trainer also pointed out that the exercises each person goes through is dependent on their circumstances, for example an elite athlete gearing up for the Olympics wouldn’t train the same as a postnatal person.

Higgins is the author of the Hollywood Body Plan, which is a guide to getting “back to basics”.

“It’s for people who want to improve or adjust or improve themselves from within.” he said.

“What I’m all about is through physical exertion, not kill yourself HIIT workouts, but engagement, correct alignment, body positioning and posture.

“Then you generally layer on certain modalities through that to build a health, strong for from within, quite similar to a pilates method approach.”

Higgins has now teamed up with Eimele Calibrate Reds, which is a supplement designed to promote weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and exercise.

He said he has been approached numerous times by various brands, but is particularly picky about what he gets involved with.

“I always have to try things out first before I say anything. And for me, it’s such an interesting supplement because gut health is very important along with regularity and making sure you get the right nutrients in your system.”
