‘I kid you not, I saw the blood drain out of her face.’

Karina Irby never wants to have kids.

The swimwear designer realised becoming a mum wasn’t something she wanted, opting instead to enjoy the freedom of building her businesses, travelling the world and spending her money on herself.

The 34-year-old and her husband Ryan Jones mutually decided to keep their marriage child free since tying the knot in October 2022.

However, their choice to be childless has raised eyebrows, particularly from strangers.

In a recent encounter, the Australian entrepreneur said she was having a “super friendly” chat with a “nice lady” in public when things took a “confronting” turn.

“I just told a woman I’m not having children and I kid you not, I saw the blood drain out of her face,” Irby said in a video.

The pair were engaging in “small talk” when the stranger noticed Irby’s wedding ring on her finger.

“She goes, ‘Oh I see you’re married… How old are you?’” Irby recalled.

“I tell her my age and she goes, ‘Oh you’re getting on? So you must have children?’ I just go to her, ‘No, no kids. Actually myself and my husband aren’t having children’.

“I swear to god, I saw the blood drain out of her face. She leans in and she goes, ‘Well darling what do you plan on doing with your life?’”

Taken aback by the stranger’s question, Irby responded: “How long have you got?”

She then told the woman about how she was spending her life without children.

“Building my businesses, saving money, spending money on me, holiday and travels, sleeping and relaxing, more time with my husband and absolute freedom,” Irby explained.

Her choice to be childless has raised eyebrows, particularly from strangers.

“I would never choose to have children just so I can be taken care of when I’m older. Also having children doesn’t guarantee that you are going to get taken care of FYI (for your information).

“Anyway I just found the whole thing quite confronting.”

As Irby sat in her car to record the video, she couldn’t believe the encounter she had with the stranger.

“This happens to me so often you’d think I’d be used to it by now,” she said, adding: “I upset a stranger because I don’t want kids.”

Her video has been viewed more than 15,000 times, with many mums applauding Irby for standing up for her decision to be childless.

Irby is the founder of the popular Moana Bikini swimwear range.

“You’re making the best choice. And I’m a mum,” one said, laughing.

Another wrote: “I’m a mum-of-two and I LOVE my kids but I support this 100 per cent. It’s your choice. I sometimes envy people that don’t have kids — but mine are cute when they’re asleep.”

One declared: “As a mum-of-four, girl you’re making the best choice.”

Another added: “Love this! As a mum-of-six this is great! I don’t think we should push women to have babies if they don’t want to and those kids suffer with an unhappy mum.”

Many childless women revealed they were fed up with people asking about their baby plans.

“Oh my god, I get this all the time. I’m turning 35 this year. It is something people say to me all the time,” one said.

Another said: “My husband and I don’t want children either and the amount of weird looks and the very same questions we get are insane.”

One added: “It’s so tiring trying to explain to people that you aren’t having kids. We have lives that are full and happy even though we don’t have kids. Just keep being your amazing self.”
