“Get better Jimmy. I’m sure Jane’s fantastic cooking will help mend you quicker!” a second wrote.

“Poor bugger! Best wishes to Jimmy,” added another.

On November 28 Barnes announced the news that he was currently being treated in hospital.

“I’m sorry to let you know that I’ve been receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia,” Barnes said via Facebook.

“Unfortunately, this has stopped me from travelling to Noumea to join Rock The Boat 2023 as planned.

“I’d like to apologise sincerely to everyone for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused but the doctors have confined me to bed for two days.

“The timing couldn’t be worse.

“I’m expected to make a full recovery in time to perform live at By The C in Torquay,” he added of the December 2 concert.

However, he later had to withdraw from that show.

“I know a lot of people travel a long way for this gig so I’m really sorry that I won’t be able to see you in Torquay as I’d hoped”, he said at the weekend.

“This infection has knocked me for six so there’s no chance that the doctors will let me out of bed for the next few days.”

Bacterial pneumonia is an infection in the lungs caused by bacteria. It inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs causing coughing, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing, according to Mayo Clinic.

Barnes underwent major hip surgery in 2022.

It comes nearly a year after the rocker underwent major hip surgery in December 2022.

Barnes revealed in November 2022 that he had to cancel his summer tour to have back and hip surgery.

In a message to fans, he said his non-stop performances for close to 50 years had “finally caught up with me”.

“I’ve had niggling back and hip issues for years but things suddenly got a lot worse over the last few weeks and I’m now in constant and severe pain,” he said at the time.

“As everybody knows, it’s against my religion to blow out gigs but the doctors tell me I need an operation as soon as possible and it will really limit my movement for a few months.

“As much as it kills me to inconvenience everyone, I have to get this fixed so I can jump around onstage for another 50 years.”

After his surgery, Barnes’ daughter Elly May posted a picture of him recovering in hospital, saying the surgery had gone well.

“Hey everyone it’s @ellymaybarnes, my dadda is out of surgery and awake,” she wrote.

“The doctors are very happy … Thanks for all the well wishes.”
