‘I’m copping death threats’: Jacinta Nampijinpa Price threatened over Voice to Parliament mass text campaign

Jacinta Nampijinpa Price claims she is “copping death threats” after thousands of Australians were bombarded with unsolicited text messages urging them to vote No to the Voice to Parliament.

The text messages purporting to be from the Northern Territory Senator were sent on Tuesday, labelling the Voice “risky” and “divisive” and encouraging voters to visit a Liberal Party website to apply for a postal vote.

“Hi, it’s Jacinta Price, The Referendum is on 14 Oct. This Voice is risky, unknown and divisive. Don’t know? Say no. For a postal vote go to https://postal.vote,” the text reads.

The Shadow Minister for Indigenous affairs appeared on Credlin on Wednesday night. While Ms Price did not confirm whether she sent the text messages, she did say she has a “target” on her back.

“I have had a barrage of really horrible messages today calling me a c**t and a b-word and all kinds of stuff left on my phone,” Ms Price told Credlin.

“But it says more about who they are – not me.

“I carry the target around on my back, because they need me to. Because if I don’t well who else is going to. People might be scared that they might be called racist -well I’m copping death threats.”

A number of people who received the unsolicited texts slammed it as an “invasion of privacy”.

“I have just received an unsolicited text message from someone calling themself Jacinta Price, telling me to vote NO to the Voice. This person doesn’t respect my voice. I wonder who is paying for all these NO messages. Very dodgy,” one X user commented.

“Feel invaded. Deleted immediately. What an aggressive invasion of privacy this is,” another added.

New polling results have revealed support for the Voice to Parliament is continuing to plummet, just weeks out from the referendum on October 14.

A survey by Resolve Strategic showed the Yes vote has dipped to 43 per cent from 46 per cent in August, marking the fifth consecutive month voters have lurched against the Voice proposal.
